Yes the new NEX-5R and NEX-6 are arriving soon but those will cost you at least $200-$300 more when they are released. The main difference being the new models will have slightly faster focusing (probably), Wifi and apps.
The main criticism of NEX cameras is normally the lack of quality lenses, however there are a number of lenses to be released in the next 3 to 9 months:

This is a really good deal, especially with the new lens. Cheapest is $550 from ebay shipped
Claimed by some to be the best entry level DSLR.
Although a grey market supplier T-Dimension does have some impressive feedback as well as consistent fast delivery even though it is free.
The savings here over local retail current prices make this via grey market a worthwhile deal.
